Root Starter is the fertilizer to use when installing a new lawn from seed or laying fresh sod. Manderley Root Starter Fertilizer (10-26-9) is a high-phosphorus blend. Phosphorus drives early root development, which is why starter fertilizers use higher phosphorus ratios than general-purpose lawn fertilizers.

The three numbers on the bag (10-26-9) show the nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium ratio. Phosphorus is the middle number at 26 percent, which is significantly higher than most general-purpose lawn fertilizers (typically 0 to 5 percent phosphorus). Nitrogen at 10 percent is moderate, and potassium at 9 percent supports stress tolerance during establishment.
