Grass Seed Edmonton │ Manderley Lawn Seed for Alberta

For most Edmonton yards, Manderley is the grass seed we reach for. Four blends handle the main lawn situations we see: full sun with heavy traffic, low-maintenance yards, mixed sun and shade, and overseeding for existing lawns.

Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, and fine fescue show up in every blend but in different ratios. Bluegrass builds thick colour and deep roots. Ryegrass gives you fast germination, usually within a week or two. Fescue takes over in the drier spots and shady areas where bluegrass tends to struggle. Manderley shifts the ratios based on the purpose of each blend.

About these blends

The two Less Water blends (Full Sun/High Traffic and Low Maintenance) are TWCA-qualified drought tolerant. TWCA stands for Turfgrass Water Conservation Alliance, an independent organization that tests seed for actual drought tolerance. These blends need up to 50% less irrigation than an average lawn mix and resist drought about a month and a half longer.

Sun and Shade plus Quick Start are professional-quality seed with no filler. Every gram in the bag is grass seed, not inert material padded in to hit a weight.

Which blend to pick

• Full Sun / High Traffic: Pick this if your yard gets full sun most of the day and sees heavy foot traffic from kids or pets. Also good for overseeding an existing Manderley Less Water sod lawn.
• Low Maintenance: Pick this if you want less watering and less mowing. The high fescue content grows slower than bluegrass-heavy blends. Needs at least 4 hours of sun per day.
• Sun and Shade: Pick this if parts of your yard get full sun and other parts get partial shade. Needs at least 4 hours of sun per day.
• Quick Start: Pick this for overseeding thin spots or when you need visible germination fast. The high ryegrass content sprouts quickly. Works in full sun or partial shade.

When to seed in Alberta

Best windows for grass seed in the Edmonton area:

• Late spring (mid-May to early June) once frost risk is past and soil is warm.
• Late summer (mid-August through early September). Often the best window because soil is warm and rainfall is more reliable.
• Fall dormant (mid-October or later). Seed goes in but doesn’t germinate until spring.

Avoid mid-July peak heat unless you can water daily.

Drive into our West Edmonton yard to pick up. We also deliver across Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, and Spruce Grove. Grass seed is light enough that even the 22.7 kg bags fit in any vehicle.
