Perlite Edmonton │ Horticultural Soil Conditioner
Price range: $21.99 through $85.00
Horticultural perlite for potting mixes, seed starting, and drainage improvement. A natural mineral processed into lightweight white pellets that keep soil airy and free-draining. Available in 5 Gallon or 20 Gallon Bags. Pickup from our West Edmonton yard or delivery across Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, and surrounding areas (delivery fee applies).
Perlite starts as a natural mineral, then gets heated until it pops open into lightweight white pellets. Each pellet is full of tiny air pockets. Water drains through them fast, and air moves easily around plant roots. In practice, that means you can add perlite to a mix that stays too wet after watering or packs down too tight for roots to spread.
Our horticultural perlite is processed for garden use. Mix it into a potting blend for containers, or work it into a raised bed where drainage is a problem. A typical potting blend runs 20 to 30 percent perlite by volume, though heavy clay gardens usually need less.

Common uses
- Potting mixes: Add to store-bought or homemade blends when containers stay soggy after watering.
- Seed starting trays: Improves drainage and airflow around new roots.
- Raised bed amendment: Worked into heavy soil so roots get oxygen as they spread.
- Cuttings and propagation: A perlite-heavy mix roots cuttings faster than dense soil.

Vermiculite is the other soil amendment most gardeners ask about. Where perlite drains fast and holds air, vermiculite holds moisture and releases it slowly. Many potting mixes use both. See our Vermiculite if your soil dries out too fast or your seedlings need more consistent moisture.
Building a full potting blend from scratch? Peat Moss is the standard base that ties perlite and vermiculite together. See our compost. for the third piece of the classic potting mix.
